Well, <a href=\"https:\/\/thelifecoachschool.com\/podcast\/178\/\">in one of her podcasts<\/a>, she says that The Joy Diet and Finding your Own North Star by Martha Beck are in her top 5 best (self-help) books she has read in her life. After these books, it seems that Martha Beck has indulged in what Brooke Castillo calls \"woo-woo\", that is, cosmic energies and other new age stuff. No, thank you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But with this book, we don't go into that. It's an accessible, funny, and even exhilarating read. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Summary<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The word \"diet\" as used here does not belong to the field of nutrition. What we need to understand is that the elements it suggests we follow must be incorporated into our daily lives. They must be part of our routine, like a diet. Okay, that's not my favorite metaphor either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It warns us well at the beginning, these elements must be incorporated <em>gradually <\/em>in our lives. No trying to do it all at once, no reading the book in one sitting and finding it nice and moving on. She is very convincing, so I decided to follow her advice. I've been doing Menu Item #1 for 5 days, and I won't start incorporating Menu Item #2 for another two days. Although I'm already burning to get to the end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then she explains the menu items one at a time:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1- <strong>Do nothing for 15 minutes.<\/strong> Another way of telling us to meditate. Everyone, everywhere, has been telling me to meditate for years, and I've never been able to make it a habit. I've gotten to the point where just the word \"meditation\" gives me a rash. So I appreciate the change in wording, which makes it less intimidating. And she talks about it in such a way that I now look forward every day to sitting in peace and just staring into space for fifteen minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2- <strong>Create a moment of truth.<\/strong> Once the habit of doing nothing is well integrated into our routine, we can add a moment of truth at the end. It's a matter of asking ourselves a few questions to determine what's bothering us at the time: how we feel, what hurts, what story we're telling ourselves that hurts, can we be sure that this story is true, is it useful to us, and is it possible to tell ourselves another one that could be more useful? And then, to have compassion for our dark side that makes up so many horrible stories. I've been asking myself these kinds of questions here and there for a while now, and they bring a lot of clarity to my life. I can only imagine what would change if I asked myself all of them, every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3- <strong>Identify and explore at least one of our deepest desires<\/strong>. Martha Beck encourages us to honor our deepest desires, whether they are small or large. She explains how to identify them, how to determine whether they are false desires or true desires, and how to make the decision to fulfill them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4- <strong>Find at least one concrete idea to help us get what we want.<\/strong> For this, she encourages us to think outside the box and accept the discomfort that inevitably comes with this kind of thinking. Because we tell ourselves that chasing our dreams is going to get us killed, and we're right. But it's worth it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5- <strong>Take at least one action each day to get closer to our goals.<\/strong> It's going to be scary, that's why they call it a risk. It's not necessarily appealing, but Martha Beck explains how to choose a good risk and why it's important to take one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>6- <strong>Give yourself at least three treats every day.<\/strong> And by treat, she means anything that makes us smile. A treat to congratulate us for taking a risk, and two more treats just like that. It can be food, but it doesn't have to be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>7- <strong>Play<\/strong>. Martha Beck urges us to differentiate our work from the games we play in order to get our work done and to commit to playing with our whole being. We are far too serious in life. This element can help us to lighten up. And speaking of fun...<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>8- <strong>Laugh at least 30 times a day.<\/strong> I have no idea how many times I laugh a day. I'll have to keep track once I get here. Because 30 times a day is an absolute minimum. We have to identify what makes us laugh, then find ways to meet our quota. Every single day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>9- <strong>Create a bond with someone else.<\/strong> To do this, Martha Beck suggests that we go through steps 1 to 5 in the presence of someone else, which should allow us to establish a real connection with that person. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>10- <strong>Enjoy at least three feasts a day. <\/strong>Again, it can be food feasts, or not. The important thing is to have <em>the feeling <\/em>to have a feast, that is, to fill our senses. She gives great examples, and I want to have a feast right now, but I'll do my homework first. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Impressions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When I finished this book, I was ridiculous. I was home alone and smiling for nothing. I put on some music and waddled over to make a salad. We often talk about the glasses through which we see life: mine were pink. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That's because this book has definitely made me hit my quota of laughs for the day (she's hilarious), and because it excites me. I firmly believe that if I do all of these steps every day, I will be happier. I don't see how it could be otherwise. Martha Beck allows her readers to have fun just like that, for no reason, to follow their deepest desires, and to spoil themselves every day. R\u00e9sum\u00e9 Le mot &#8220;di\u00e8te&#8221; tel qu&#8217;utilis\u00e9 ici n&#8217;appartient pas au domaine de la nutrition. Ce qu&#8217;il faut en comprendre, c&#8217;est que les \u00e9l\u00e9ments qu&#8217;elle nous propose de suivre doivent \u00eatre incorpor\u00e9s \u00e0 notre vie quotidienne. Ils doivent faire partie de notre routine, comme une di\u00e8te. OK, moi non plus ce n&#8217;est pas ma m\u00e9taphore pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9e. Elle nous avertit bien au d\u00e9but, ces \u00e9l\u00e9ments doivent \u00eatre incorpor\u00e9s progressivement dans nos vies. Pas question d&#8217;essayer de tout faire d&#8217;un coup, ni de lire le livre d&#8217;une traite en trouvant \u00e7a sympathique et de passer autre chose. Elle est tr\u00e8s convaincante, alors j&#8217;ai d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de suivre ses conseils. Je fais le Menu Item #1 depuis 5 jours, et je ne commencerai \u00e0 int\u00e9grer le Menu Item #2 que dans deux jours. M\u00eame si je br\u00fble d\u00e9j\u00e0 d&#8217;arriver \u00e0 la fin. Ensuite, elle nous explique les \u00e9l\u00e9ments du menu un \u00e0 la fois : 1- Ne rien faire pendant 15 minutes. Une autre fa\u00e7on de nous dire de m\u00e9diter. Tout le monde, partout, me dit de m\u00e9diter depuis des ann\u00e9es, et je n&#8217;ai jamais r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 en faire une habitude. J&#8217;en suis rendue au point que le simple mot &#8220;m\u00e9ditation&#8221; me donne des boutons. J&#8217;appr\u00e9cie donc le changement de formulation, qui rend \u00e7a moins intimidant. Et elle en parle de telle mani\u00e8re que j&#8217;ai maintenant h\u00e2te chaque jour d&#8217;aller m&#8217;asseoir en paix et de rester les yeux dans le vide pendant un quart d&#8217;heure. 2- Cr\u00e9er un moment de v\u00e9rit\u00e9. Une fois que l&#8217;habitude de ne rien faire sera bien int\u00e9gr\u00e9e dans notre routine, on peut y ajouter \u00e0 la fin un moment de v\u00e9rit\u00e9. Il s&#8217;agit de se poser quelques questions pour d\u00e9terminer ce qui nous achale sur le moment : comment on se sent, qu&#8217;est-ce qui fait mal, quelle est l&#8217;histoire qu&#8217;on se raconte qui nous fait mal, est-ce qu&#8217;on peut-\u00eatre s\u00fbr que cette histoire est vraie, est-ce qu&#8217;elle nous est utile, et est-ce que c&#8217;est possible de s&#8217;en raconter une autre qui pourrait l&#8217;\u00eatre plus? Et puis, avoir de la compassion pour notre c\u00f4t\u00e9 sombre qui s&#8217;invente autant d&#8217;histoires horribles. J&#8217;ai commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 me poser ce genre de questions par-ci par-l\u00e0 depuis quelque temps, et elles m&#8217;apportent \u00e9norm\u00e9ment de clart\u00e9 dans ma vie. Je peux \u00e0 peine imaginer ce qui pourrait changer si je me les posais toutes, tous les jours. 3- Identifier et explorer au moins un de nos d\u00e9sirs profonds. Martha Beck nous incite \u00e0 honorer nos d\u00e9sirs les plus profonds, qu&#8217;ils soient petits ou grands. Elle nous explique comment les identifier, comment d\u00e9terminer si ce sont de faux d\u00e9sirs ou de vrais d\u00e9sirs, et prendre la d\u00e9cision de les r\u00e9aliser. 4- Trouver au moins une id\u00e9e concr\u00e8te pour nous aider \u00e0 obtenir ce qu&#8217;on d\u00e9sire. Pour \u00e7a, elle nous incite \u00e0 sortir des sentiers battus et \u00e0 accepter l&#8217;inconfort qui viendra in\u00e9vitablement avec ce genre de r\u00e9flexion. Parce qu&#8217;on se dit qu&#8217;en poursuivant nos r\u00eaves, on va se casser la gueule, et on a raison. Mais \u00e7a vaut la peine. 5- Poser au moins une action chaque jour pour se rapprocher de nos buts. \u00c7a va faire peur, c&#8217;est pour \u00e7a qu&#8217;on appelle \u00e7a un risque. Ce n&#8217;est pas n\u00e9cessairement attrayant, mais Martha Beck explique comment choisir un bon risque et pourquoi c&#8217;est important d&#8217;en prendre. 6- Se donner chaque jour au moins trois g\u00e2teries. Et par g\u00e2terie, elle entend n&#8217;importe quoi qui nous fait sourire. Une g\u00e2terie pour nous f\u00e9liciter d&#8217;avoir pris un risque, et deux autres g\u00e2teries juste comme \u00e7a. \u00c7a peut \u00eatre de la nourriture, mais pas n\u00e9cessairement. 7- Jouer. Martha Beck nous incite \u00e0 diff\u00e9rencier notre travail des jeux qu&#8217;on fait pour pouvoir accomplir notre travail et \u00e0 nous engager \u00e0 jouer avec tout notre \u00eatre. On est bien trop s\u00e9rieux dans la vie. Cet \u00e9l\u00e9ment peut nous aider \u00e0 nous d\u00e9rider. Et parlant de d\u00e9rider&#8230; 8- Rire au moins 30 fois par jour. Je n&#8217;ai aucune id\u00e9e du nombre de fois que je ris par jour. Il va falloir que je fasse le compte une fois que je serai rendue ici. Parce que 30 fois par jour, c&#8217;est un minimum absolu. Il faut identifier ce qui nous fait rire, puis trouver des mani\u00e8res d&#8217;atteindre notre quota. Tous les jours. 9- Cr\u00e9er une lien avec quelqu&#8217;un d&#8217;autre. Pour cela, Martha Beck nous propose de passer \u00e0 travers les \u00e9tapes 1 \u00e0 5 en pr\u00e9sence de quelqu&#8217;un d&#8217;autre, ce qui devrait nous permettre d&#8217;\u00e9tablir un vrai lien avec cette personne. 10- Savourer au moins trois festins par jour. Encore une fois, \u00e7a peut \u00eatre des festins de nourriture, ou pas. L&#8217;important, c&#8217;est d&#8217;avoir l&#8217;impression d&#8217;avoir un festin, c&#8217;est-\u00e0-dire de combler nos sens. Elle donne de tr\u00e8s bons exemples, et j&#8217;ai envie de faire un festin tout de suite, mais je vais faire mes devoirs avant. Impressions Quand j&#8217;ai termin\u00e9 ce livre, j&#8217;\u00e9tais ridicule. J&#8217;\u00e9tais toute seule chez moi et je souriais pour rien. J&#8217;ai mis de la musique et je suis all\u00e9e me faire une salade en me dandinant. On parle souvent des lunettes \u00e0 travers lesquelles on voit la vie : les miennes \u00e9taient roses. C&#8217;est parce que ce livre m&#8217;a certainement fait atteindre mon quota de rires pour la journ\u00e9e (elle est hilarante), et parce qu&#8217;il m&#8217;enthousiasme. Je crois fermement que si je fais toutes ces \u00e9tapes chaque jour, je serai plus heureuse. Je ne vois pas comment il pourrait en \u00eatre autrement.
