First day of 2017: I'm in Mexico, in a luxurious all-inclusive, and I've just finished a novel on an e-reader for the first time. This is it, I'm hooked.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

I received this beautiful Kobo from my mother for Christmas. It fits in the palm of my hand, I can put it in my coat pocket, but more importantly, I can borrow books from the BAnQ with it. It seriously revolutionizes my way of life. I don't have to go anywhere or pay for books anymore.<\/p>\n

I also have a Kindle (I'm well surrounded), but Kindle has an agreement with Amazon, so I can only buy books from Amazon. Or sync with my Instapaper app, which is what I was doing. But my Kobo is with the Pocket app, which I think is nicer. Who wants a Kindle?<\/p>\n

It took me a long time though to successfully borrow something with my Kobo. Several hours of tinkering. I didn't have anything specific in mind, I just wanted to try it, so I typed the first name that came to mind in the search bar: Jane. Author, title, it didn't matter. And I borrowed the first available book, Le Probl\u00e8me avec Jane.<\/p>\n

It reminds me of when I was little. To choose my books, I would walk between the shelves in the children's section, close my eyes, and point to a book at random. I would pick up 10 of them in this method. Slowly, I ended up reading all the significant children's and teen authors using this method. Word of mouth is good, but you have to start somewhere.<\/p>\n

Once again, this method worked. I came across a delight that I would have had no way of knowing otherwise. Catherine Cusset, do you know her? That's what I thought.<\/p>\n

It's a good concept. Jane finds a manuscript in her mailbox entitled The Problem with Jane. She reads it, only to be shocked to find that her life is described in detail. Very intimate details, that only a few close friends can know. From chapter to chapter, she changes suspects. Her ex? An old friend? A crazy colleague?<\/p>\n

The content of his life is nothing extraordinary, and I admit I have a soft spot for it. Ordinary stories of ordinary people. It makes it easier to identify with them. Jane could have been me. She grows up, she has experiences, she has a love, then another, she thinks it will last forever, it doesn't, she wants a child, it never comes. She makes a blunder, the consequences of which she doesn't see until much later...<\/p>\n

This time, I will not advise you to read this novel, but rather to do as I did: borrow a book blind. Read the first chapter, and if you don't like it, leave it alone. There are millions of books available to you. You can't know them all, but you can't love them all either.<\/p>\n

Ou synchroniser avec mon application Instapaper, ce que je faisais. Mais ma Kobo est avec l’application Pocket, qui, selon moi, est plus jolie. Qui veut une Kindle? J’ai pris beaucoup de temps par contre pour r\u00e9ussir \u00e0 emprunter quelque chose avec ma Kobo. Plusieurs heures de gossage. Je n’avais rien de particulier en t\u00eate, je voulais juste essayer, alors j’ai tap\u00e9 le premier nom qui m’est venu en t\u00eate dans la barre de recherche : Jane. Auteur, titre, c’\u00e9tait pas important. Et j’emprunte le premier livre disponible, Le probl\u00e8me avec Jane. \u00c7a me rappelle quand j’\u00e9tais petite. Pour choisir mes livres, je me promenais entre les rayons dans la section pour enfants, je fermais les yeux, et je pointais un livre au hasard. J’en prenais 10 selon cette m\u00e9thode. Tranquillement, j’ai fini par lire tous les auteurs significatifs pour enfants et ados gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 cette m\u00e9thode. Le bouche \u00e0 oreille, c’est bien, mais il faut commencer quelque part. Encore une fois, cette m\u00e9thode a fonctionn\u00e9. Je suis tomb\u00e9e sur un d\u00e9lice que je n’aurais eu aucune mani\u00e8re de conna\u00eetre autrement. Catherine Cusset, vous connaissez? C’est ce que je croyais. C’est un bon concept. Jane trouve dans sa bo\u00eete aux lettres un manuscrit qui s’intitule Le probl\u00e8me avec Jane. Elle le lit, pour s’apercevoir avec stupeur que sa vie est relat\u00e9e en d\u00e9tails. Des d\u00e9tails tr\u00e8s intimes, que seuls quelques amis proches peuvent conna\u00eetre. De chapitre en chapitre, elle change de suspect. Son ex? Une ancienne amie? Un coll\u00e8gue un peu fou? Le contenu de sa vie n’a rien d’extraordinaire, et j’avoue que j’ai un faible pour \u00e7a. Des histoires ordinaires de gens ordinaires. On s’identifie mieux. Jane aurait pu \u00eatre moi. Elle grandit, elle vit des exp\u00e9riences, elle vit un amour, puis un autre, elle croit que \u00e7a va durer toujours, \u00e7a ne dure pas, elle veut un enfant, il n’arrive jamais. Elle fait une gaffe, dont elle ne vit les cons\u00e9quences que beaucoup plus tard… Cette fois-ci, je ne vous conseillerai pas de lire ce roman, mais plut\u00f4t de faire comme moi: d’emprunter un livre \u00e0 l’aveugle. Lisez le premier chapitre, et s’il ne vous pla\u00eet pas, laissez tomber. Il y a des millions de livres \u00e0 votre disposition. C’est ce que je croyais. C’est un bon concept. Jane trouve dans sa bo\u00eete aux lettres un manuscrit qui s’intitule Le probl\u00e8me avec Jane. Elle le lit, pour s’apercevoir avec stupeur que sa vie est relat\u00e9e en d\u00e9tails. Des d\u00e9tails tr\u00e8s intimes, que seuls quelques amis proches peuvent conna\u00eetre. De chapitre en chapitre, elle change de suspect. Son ex? Une ancienne amie? Un coll\u00e8gue un peu fou? Le contenu de sa vie n’a rien d’extraordinaire, et j’avoue que j’ai un faible pour \u00e7a. Des histoires ordinaires de gens ordinaires. On s’identifie mieux. Jane aurait pu \u00eatre moi. Elle grandit, elle vit des exp\u00e9riences, elle vit un amour, puis un autre, elle croit que \u00e7a va durer toujours, \u00e7a ne dure pas, elle veut un enfant, il n’arrive jamais. Elle fait une gaffe, dont elle ne vit les cons\u00e9quences que beaucoup plus tard… Cette fois-ci, je ne vous conseillerai pas de lire ce roman, mais plut\u00f4t de faire comme moi: d’emprunter un livre \u00e0 l’aveugle. Lisez le premier chapitre, et s’il ne vous pla\u00eet pas, laissez tomber. Il y a des millions de livres \u00e0 votre disposition. On ne peut pas tous les conna\u00eetre, mais on ne peut pas non plus tous les aimer.
